Financial Assistance with Rates

People from all walks of life can find themselves with financial problems.  

Council’s Revenue Officers are here to help!  

Council is more than willing offer payment arrangements that work with your unique situation, even as soon as when you receive your Rates Notices.  

Council also has a Financial Assistance Policy(PDF, 621KB) in place for those who are struggling financially, especially those who have been impacted by the effects of COVID-19. The Local Government Act 1989 provides for Councils to waive or defer rates on applications under Section 170A and 171A. All information is kept confidential.

Financial counsellors are non-judgemental, qualified professionals who provide information, support and advocacy to people in financial difficulty.  

  • A financial counsellor can provide the following support to their clients:
  • Advise and assist with problems related to debt and debt enforcement
  • Advocate and negotiate with banks and other lenders
  • Assist with concessions, grant eligibility and applications as well as referral for material aid
  • Assist with lodging complaints to external dispute resolution services
  • Refer to other community, health and legal services
  • Provide information about consumer rights  

 

Financial counsellors do not:

  • lend money
  • provide material aid
  • recommend any kinds of loan products
  • do tax returns
  • provide debt consolidation services
  • provide financial product advice, ordeal with investments
